Why is Easter not celebrated on an exact date every year?
Taking into consideration different kind of holidays like Christmas, New Year, Valentine Day and other public holidays that have specific dates of celebration, Easter always changes dates of celebration every year. Today Ubugeni.com wished to share with you the reason & facts behind those changes of dates.
Normally Easter happens between 22nd March and 25th May. For this year, it will be celebrated on the 21st April that means, Good Friday will be on the 19th April. Nevertheless, on 23rd April it will be Saint George’s day from England, and many people take this day as Jokes day due to the funny stories of Joriji Baneti (Mythical character in Rwandan childhood stories).
For you to understand the reason behind the changes in the celebration dates of Easter, you need to first know about the following changes happening to the moon throughout the whole year.
Easter then is celebrated on the week following the occurrence of the full moon. Right after the sun passes just above the equator line dividing the earth globe into two parts, this is referred to as Equinox. In addition, for Christians, Easter is the day of celebration and remembrance of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Messiah.
As we mentioned above, Easter needs to take place on early dates as possible that is on The 22nd of April. If it goes far it then, it can take place on the 25th May. Easter will again take place in April in 2024 and it will be on 31st of that month. For other years to come, Easter will take place in May.
In 1943, the sun reached above the equator on the 20th of April, and the full moon occurred on the 18th of May. Easter was to happen a week after, so it took place on the 25th of May. This won’t though happen again soon, as it will occur once more in 2038.
That is then how Easter got to have changing dates. We, therefore, take this time as Ubugeni.com wishing in advance Happy Easter, for those who believe in it, and we wish you peace and blessings from God.
